TO BEGIN

A1. I WOULD LIKE TO CREATE MY OWN APP BUT, WHERE DO I START?

Creating an app with Map2App is very easy!

  •       Log on to the Map2App site
  •       Click on “Login” in the top right corner
  •       Register with a Google account
  •       And start creating your own app!

You have 60 days of free use of the platform. After that you can publish your app or, if you need more time to work on it, pay for the content hosting.

A2. WHAT IS CONTENT HOSTING?

The Map2App platform saves and maintains all the contents of all registered users (text, photos, audio, icons, etc.) and, like any hosting service (websites, blogs, clouds, etc.), requires payment to cover maintenance costs. The cost is 36.60 euros per year to be paid in advance via PayPal. The first 60 days after the creation of the account are free.

A3. WHY DO I NEED A GOOGLE ACCOUNT TO REGISTER ON THE PLATFORM?

We use OpenID, one of the most secure authentication systems in the world. It provides users with security and speed when authenticating to a website. You will need a different Google account for each app you want to create. We recommend that you create an ad hoc account for each individual app so that you can share it with any contributors, alternatively you will need to share your private account.

A4. CAN I ONLY CREATE TOURIST GUIDES? WHAT OTHER THINGS CAN I CREATE WITH MAP2APP?

We love travelling and we love maps, but that doesn’t mean that you can only create tourist guides! Map2App is a very flexible tool that allows you to create different types of applications with full support of audio, video and image files. For example, you can create an App for specific events, for a Hotel, for a Restaurant or for an Encyclopedia of all countries and flags of the world. As you can see, you can have fun creating any type of app! If you need a hint, look at our customer portfolio.

A5. CAN I SEND PUSH NOTIFICATIONS TO MY USERS?

Sure, but only for native apps! Once your app has been published you can access the “PROMOTION” panel (in the APP section of the backend) and send notifications, or short text messages, to all your users. You can do it for each language with which you have published your App. Don’t worry if you are offline, messages will be received the first time you connect and remain stored within the App’s notification session.

A6. CAN I PROFIT FROM MAKING AN APP?

You can decide whether to publish an App for a fee or at a cost but remember that once published with a price you can always make it free, you cannot do the opposite.

A7 CAN I PRODUCE MORE THAN ONE APP OR ARE THERE ANY DISCOUNTS?

If you are a communication agency and you want to use our platform to create Apps for your customers, WeAGoo will discount 20% of the total amount paid so far on the price of the third App published only in “ONE OF FEE” mode. The discount is reserved only on the publication price, if developed for both Android and iOS.  It does not apply to re-publish activities or additional services (hosting, graphics, customization, etc..).

CONTENTS

B1. ADD, EDIT, DELETE LANGUAGES IN THE BACKEND

Remember that the default language in the backend is English, if you want to change it do it right away. Establish a new language, then delete English. If you want to add one or more languages to your App, we recommend that you first create your entire app in the original language and only then add the new one. We use the Google Translator API, you will find all the duplicate and translated content, although they are generally quite reliable, we strongly recommend that you check the translations before publishing your application.

IMPORTANT: remember that the system automatically translates only the text in the “text” box and not in the “info” box, just as it does not translate the name of the card.

B2. MY APP HAS MULTIPLE LANGUAGES, HOW DO I SELECT ONE ON MY SMARTPHONE?

The application itself checks which language is set on the phone and displays the corresponding language. If you want to change the language manually, go to your phone’s settings and change the language to the one you want. This system allows your customers to download the app from the stores and view it immediately in their own language.

IMPORTANT: The multilingual App has a default language, this means that if you do not translate your App into a specific language, the user from a country that does not have its native language will download the App in the default language. For this reason we recommend that you leave the English language by default, for example this will allow a German to download it in English even if it has not been translated into his native language.

B3. CAN I ADD A RSS FEED TO MY APP?

Of course you can! Just create a new category and in the “New Category Box” select the RSS button and then the link to your RSS feed. Then, click on “Save” and wait a few seconds. RSS is useful for having a category linked to a website that will update every time you publish new content on your server.

B4. CAN I LOAD AND DISPLAY ROUTES ON A MAP?

Of course, the Map2App platform provides for the import of routes drawn with Google Earth and exported in .kml format. We are updating the platform, currently the import by the user is not working, so we ask you to send us via email the file indicating which category it should be linked to. B5. CAN I CHANGE THE NAME OF MODULS?

Of course! If you have more than one language, remember to translate them with the correct name for each language.

B6. CAN I CHANGE THE MODULE ICON?

Yes, but your icons must conform to the following characteristics:

  • monochromatic
  • format .png on alpha
  • dimensions: 512×512pixel
B7. COPY AND PASTE TEXT INTO THE MAP2APP BACKEND FROM WEBSITES

You can use the content you have used on websites, social networks, blogs, etc. but be careful about formatting the texts. Copying and pasting from a website may also copy the formatting of the texts and thus make their display in the app incorrect. We suggest you copy and paste the texts first on a notepad so that they lose the original formatting and only then paste them into Map2App. You can always format them as you like (bold, color, spacing, etc.) right from inside the platform.

STRUCTURE AND DESIGN

C1. CAN MY APP HAVE SUBCATEGORIES?

The standard categories you can do with the platform can only contain items. If you need sub-categories (e.g. Where to eat>Restaurants>Ethnic cuisine) our team can create them for you. It is enough that you normally create the categories containing the items (in the example “Italian Food”, “Ethnic Cuisine” etc.) and we will link them to a higher category that you will indicate. The important thing is that the upper category is left empty because a standard category can contain other categories but not a mix of categories and items. We recommend that you create an excel file so that you have an eye on the structure and possibly share it with us. See the tutorial for more information.

C2. WHAT ARE THE RIGHT MEASURES FOR EACH GRAPHIC ELEMENT (IMAGES, ICONS, ETC. ...)?

The platform allows you to upload images in PNG and JPG format. The size of the images to be included in the categories and content do not require special dimensions, but it is advisable that they are large enough because the platform itself takes care of the resizing. A special mention should be made for the images that you will place as Splash Screen (image that appears while waiting for the application to load), the background image and as an icon symbol of the app that will be present in the stores. Here are the measures, resolution 72dpi.

  • Splash Screen: Width 1242 px; Height 2208 px, jpg/png
  • Main image at Banner: Width 960 px; Height in proportion, jpg/png
  • Full screen background image: Width 1000 px; Height: 2000 px, jpg/png
  • Store icon: Width 1024 px; Height 1024 px, png

Suggestions, in order not to make the app unnecessarily heavy, we recommend:

  • icons of the items or categories 160x160px, 72dpi, jpg/png
  • photos, photo gallery, 1280x768px 72dpi, jpg/png
C3. WHY DOES NO IMAGE APPEAR WHEN I WANT TO SELECT A BANNER/SPLASHSCREEN/ICON?

The reason you don’t see an image is because the images you uploaded are smaller than required. See answer C2.

C4. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND TITLE?

The difference between first and second title is very simple: the first title, which we can define “long title”, is what will appear in the Store and can be up to 30 characters. The second title is the one that appears under the icon of your app once installed on your mobile phone. For this reason it must be shorter and more concise: max 12 characters.

C5. MY MEDIA, WHAT IT IS AND HOW TO OPTIMIZE IT

My Media is your “gallery” where you can upload all your images, icons, Mp3 files. You have 200MB of space. There is no direct relationship between the images uploaded to My Media and those in the App, except those actually connected within the App. Often customers make apps that contain hundreds and hundreds of images, you should create as many “collections” as there are your categories. This will allow you to search, for example, for photos of monuments all grouped in the collection “monuments” and not in a single large folder.

PAYMENTS

D1. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PUBLISH AN APP? WHAT PAYMENT SOLUTIONS ARE THERE?

To get an idea of how much your app will cost, Map2App offers an easy and fast calculator with 3 different payment solutions.

  • One-off-fee: pay for your app in one go. Enter how much content your app will have (minimum 50), the number of languages and for which platforms you want to create your app. This is the price you’ll pay! After the publication of the app you can still edit/add/remove content (text, images, colors, logos, links, etc.) but you will need to republish it. Remember that if you want to continue to maintain your backend after publication you will have to pay 36,60€/year of hosting to have all your content available.
  • Medium App Plan: the cost of publishing the app is divided into a monthly fee with a minimum of 12 months. In this case your app can have a maximum of 150 items and 2 languages. If you start with a Medium App Plan and add more items or languages than those provided, the system will automatically switch to the Big App Plan, vice versa it will not be possible to switch from a Big App Plan to a Medium App Plan. After the publication of the app it will be possible to modify/add/remove the contents (texts, images, colours, logos, links, etc.). To republish the app you will pay 62€ (fixed cost) for each O.S. but not the cost of each item and/or language added if they remain within those provided. The Medium App Plan also includes the cost of hosting as long as the payment is kept active.
  • Big App Plan: the cost of publishing the app is divided into a monthly fee with a minimum of 12 months. In this case your app can have a maximum of 1000 items and 7 languages. This subscription entitles you to 2 republications per year free of charge. Once these are finished, to republish the app you will pay 62€ (fixed cost) for each O.S. but not the cost of each item and/or language added if they remain within those provided. The Big App Plan also includes the cost of hosting as long as the payment is kept active.
D2. CAN I CHANGE MY APP AFTER PUBLICATION? HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ME?

Once published, an app can be updated at any time. When you have finished editing, always ask for a republication from the “Publish” panel. The platform will automatically calculate the republication price based on how many items and/or languages you have added in addition to the fixed cost. For more details on republication costs see answer D1.

D3. WHAT HAPPENS IF I STOP PAYING THE MONTHLY FEE?

The subscription payment is made exclusively through the “Recurring PayPal” method. The subscription has a minimum duration of 12 months but the customer can always suspend the authorization to PayPal of the automatic payment. If the customer has paid for at least 12 months, he can suspend the App and resume it later, subject to the annual payment of the hosting to maintain access to content saved in your backend that otherwise will be permanently deleted. If the customer has not paid at least 12 months, he will no longer be allowed to access and use Map2App, both for testing and for the development of a new App and its contents automatically deleted from our servers. WeAGoo will send nr. 1 reminder to the e-mail address used as user accountafter this reminder, if it is not successful, WeAGoo will be authorized to proceed as described above without the obligation of any other communication.

D4. I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE THE EMAIL ADDRESS I USE TO ACCESS MY BACKEND, IS IT POSSIBLE?

Yes, it’s possible, but it’s a paid procedure as it’s done manually by our team. The cost is a one-off of 30.00 € + VAT

D5. CAN I MOVE THE APP FROM ONE DEVELOPER ACCOUNT TO ANOTHER?

Yes, it is possible, but it is a paid service as our team must perform specific procedures on the developer accounts. The cost is €150.00 plus VAT. Please contact our office for details of the procedure to follow.

TESTING AND PUBLICATION

E1. CAN I TEST MY APP BEFORE I PUBLISH IT?

Yes, you can test the App as many times as you want but only for the Android version. Enter an email address and you will receive a link to install the app. Open the email directly from your smartphone and click on the link and then on the “Install” button that will appear later. Remember that:

  • You must allow installation from unsafe sources
  • The test app has a duration of 7 days, after which you will have to export the app again.

IMPORTANT: Testing the app before publishing is often a real life saver! Always test your app!

E2. I DO NOT RECEIVE THE APP TEST EMAIL OR A SYSTEM ERROR

Check if you have entered the email address that you can see from your smartphone or alternatively check it in Spam. There may have been an error, it is possible that you have selected the “list” or “matrix” option in the layout of the app without connecting an image to it. The app does not export the test without a linked image. If in doubt, it will link an image to both versions regardless of which version you actually choose.

E3. CAN I USE THE MAP2APP DEVELOPER ACCOUNTS TO PUBLISH MY APP?

For iOS and Android you can decide whether to use your developer account, if you have one, or use our Map2App account. Consider that Apple, prefers that you have a developer account, sometimes it allows you to use ours, sometimes not. If you want to use map2app, consider that Apple may refuse and you may be forced to open one to have the iOS version as well. WeAGoo does not guarantee that you can use our account for this operating system. If you use the Map2App account, the name of Map2App will appear on the stores next to the developer label and not yours, but the contacts will still be yours. To understand better it’s like for a writer, the publisher is who publishes while the writer is the one who created the contents of the book. If you are interested in having a completely white label app you will need to open a developer account in your name for both Google and Apple.

 

E4. WHAT IT IMPLIES TO USE YOUR OWN DEVELOPER ACCOUNT

Important: to all customers who publish under their developer account Google or Apple is their responsibility to keep the account updated and active. Google and Apple periodically send communications to the email address used in the opening process to keep it active and in compliance with the guidelines that are changed over time.
WeAGoo, in order to publish the app with the name of the developer must have shared access to accounts.
In case of technical support due to customer negligence, WeAGoo will bill for telephone support at 60€/hour.

E5. IN THE HTML5 VERSION GOOGLE MAPS SHOWS A “DEVELOPMENT ONLY” LABEL

Google Maps is no longer free. You need to associate a credit card so that you can receive invoices if your site (map) has requests that exceed the free $200 credit you get monthly from Google. Consider that it is equivalent to about 20,000 calls per month, if you exceed them you will have to start paying, but we think that you will be happy because it means that your site works great. You’ll then have to generate a personal Google Maps API key that you’ll have to provide us with to integrate it into the package, or we’ll give you instructions on where to place the key in the code. E6. HOW LONG WILL IT BE BEFORE MY APP IS AVAILABLE ON THE STORES?

We can publish your app in two different stores but, for each of them, there are different publication times and this depends on their review process, indicatively:

    • App Store: 2-15 days
    • Android Market: 2-4 days
    • Html5: it’s up to you. We will send you all the code and you will have to install it on your hosting (e.g. on your website). Since 2018, Google has required that Google Maps calls include a “key” referring to the website where the package will be placed. (see answer E4)

IMPORTANT : WeAGoo does not undertake any responsibility since it has reviewed the app at the Apple and Google stores. From this moment on, the publishing activities are totally independent of our will and process and totally under the responsibility of Google or Apple. No claims, reminders, penalty claims, damages, suspension of payment, compensation or any other claim for activities that cannot be attributed to WeAGoo may be made against WeAGoo.  

E7. YEARS AGO I PUBLISHED AN APP WITH MAP2APP BUT THEN I DIDN'T UPDATE ANYMORE. NOW I CAN'T FIND IT ON GOOGLE PLAY AND APPLE STORE... WHY?

Periodically Google Play and Apple Store delete old apps that are not regularly updated. Our advice is to do at least one republication a year, this has a number of advantages:

  • prevents the app from being removed from stores due to obsolescence
  • keeps the contents in line with the guidelines of the stores, which are constantly updated
  • makes the app compatible and optimized for new devices on the market

F1. I CAN'T ACCESS MY BACKEND ANYMORE, HOW COME?

Maybe your hosting year has expired and you have not made the payment of 36.60 euros? If so, please send us an email to team@map2app.com indicating the email address used to access the backend and the name of the app and we will check your situation. F2. I NEED HELP/ASSISTANCE, HOW DO I GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU?
